The first words that Stacey Anderson, 2026 recipient of the Dream Keeper Award, spoke after receiving the honor named after civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. were the opening lyrics of Andraé Crouch’s 1972 song “My Tribute”.

“How can I say thanks / For the things You have done for me? / Things so undeserved

/ Yet You gave to prove Your love for me; /The voices of a million angels /Could not express my gratitude /All that I am and ever hope to be / I owe it all to Thee,” Anderson said.

The Dream Keeper Award is an honor bestowed annually by the Community Relations Council of the City of Rock Hill that “recognizes exemplary displays of committed service to the tenets of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the ultimate dreamer”, according to the City of Rock Hill website.

“The ideals of social responsibility, political empowerment, diversity, racial harmony, nonviolence, and unselfish service must be demonstrated voluntarily by the nominee on behalf of his or her community and fellow citizens,” the City of Rock Hill website says.

Anderson has worked at Bank of America for over 30 years and currently serves as VP and Philanthropic Client Manager at Bank of America – Private Bank.

“Folks will tell you at Bank of America the time we talk about Rock Hill,” Anderson said. “I talk about Rock Hill day in and day out, making sure they know that this city has a light and it’s shining bright down here, and we need just as much as Charlotte does. And I know the money is there because I can see the numbers every now and then.”

“So y’all pray for my strength in there as I go in those conference rooms fighting for Rock Hill,” Anderson said.

Anderson received the award at the 23rd Annual MLK Interfaith Prayer Breakfast, which gathers community members together on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to honor community leaders who continue the late civil rights activist’s dream by giving out awards like the Dream Keeper Award.

This year’s event was held at First Baptist Church of Rock Hill, and the theme for the breakfast was “From Dream to Duty, Carrying the Torch Forward by Building Bridges, Not Walls., and the keynote speaker for this year was Maggie Glover, the first African-American woman to be elected to the SC Senate.

“I believe my feet have finally touched the ground this evening, after an amazing morning at our 23rd Annual MLK Interfaith Prayer Breakfast,” Anderson posted on LinkedIn a day after he received the award. “Totally shocked as I was named the 2026 Dreamkeeper Award recipient. I love my Rock Hill, SC ❤️and I love my community!
