Many students at Winthrop might not recognize him by name, but Beck has been a familiar face at Winthrop for the past several years as a tabling vendor inside the DiGiorgio Campus Center, where he would sell Marxist literature and merchandise to students. Abortion and Miscarriage Could Classify as Homicide Under Proposed SC Bill 3537 The Prenatal Equal Protection Act is a currently pending bill in the South Carolina House, and is in the Committee on Judiciary. This bill, if passed, will redefine “person” to include unborn children. This would mean that if a pregnant person intentionally or unintentionally ended their pregnancy they could be charged with homicide. It would also be changed so unborn children would be protected under assault charges as well. Title IX Coordinator and ADA Compliance Officer Kevin Sheppard Sr. began work on his proposed Title IX Student Ambassador program, to the relief of the concerned University community. Winthrop University welcomed Sheppard on November 1, 2021. Since his appointment, Sheppard has strongly advocated for changes to the culture and administration surrounding Title IX at the University, including proposing the creation of a Title IX Student Ambassador program and his “Creating the Culture Shift” initiative. Students and faculty are worried about the future of specific University departments and programs due to rumors regarding reduced funding from administration.
