The Roddey-McMillan Record has, and always will, advocate for diversity and inclusion. Our foundations are built on representation for everyone at Winthrop University. We are especially committed to amplifying the voices of those who may be silenced elsewhere. As Winthrop’s multicultural publication, it is our mission to honor these principles cultivated by Rev. Cynthia Plair, and Sheila McMillan to the utmost extent. Whether that’s by covering vigorous arts and cultures, social issues, or national politics, our staff devotes themselves to highlighting the unique communities on campus and around the world. Through our magazine, we encourage the Winthrop community to interact, celebrate, and stand up for every story that shapes our society.
I am proud to share this issue with the Winthrop community, not just as the Editor-In-Chief, but as a student. This issue explores the impact of Winthrop’s production of “The Escape; or, A Leap for Freedom” alongside the Catawba tribe’s Powwow held in Winthrop’s Coliseum. RMR staff members also spotlights Winthrop’s Eagle Air, a student-run hub where individuals can host their own radio shows, sharing their interests, opinions, and love for music. Lastly, in recognition of Women’s History Month, we feature an interview with one of Winthrop’s beloved professors, Dr. Josephine Koster, who reflects on her experience at Winthrop University and shares selections of her poetry from the Women’s History Month Recital.
None of this would be possible without our dedicated staff. I am always amazed at the diligent work each staff member pours into making every issue possible. I am proud of every single member at The Roddey-McMillan Record. Thank you!
