Voters who live in counties across South Carolina are gearing up for the November municipal elections. However, those eligible to vote still have a chance to register.
Municipal elections decide who will take official local office positions like mayor and town council. These elections also determine which local issues are put into action – such as tax increases, road construction and public development.
Towns and counties such as Aiken, Charleston, Colombia, Greenville, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Spartanburg and more hold their municipal elections on Nov. 4. Anyone planning to vote in this election must register before Sunday, Oct. 5. The last day to register in-person is Friday, Oct. 3. Mailed in applications must be poststamped by Monday, Oct. 6.
Sample ballots are available at least 45 days before the election.
Photo IDs are required to vote. These items include an S.C. driver’s license, S.C. DMV ID card, SC voter registration card with photo, federal military ID, or U.S. passport.
