The 62nd Anthology Showcase; The Power of Poetry and Prose at Winthrop University

Byline: Meghan Miglorie, Staff-Writer

On Thursday April 10th, I had the privilege of reading one of my personal poems, “My Mother Was Once Nineteen-” at The Anthology Showcase hosted in Dina’s Place. The Anthology is Winthrop’s only literary journal other than The Patchwork Soup, a literary society run by Winthrop Professor of English, Dustin Hoffman. For 62 years, The Anthology has recognized the talented writers and artists on campus. Editor-in-Chief Gwen Pregnall and Professor of English Amy Bagwell worked tirelessly to prepare the event and acknowledge the talented students. Naziah Foster, the graphic designer for The Anthology, beautifully laid out this year’s edition.

The Anthology showcased visual art featured in the edition and provided free copies to students and staff after the event. It was truly inspiring to see the community bond over a shared love for art and poetry. Eight pieces of poetry and prose were read at the showcase, including Julisse Rodriguez Ayala’s “Things My Father Left Behind”. Each of these pieces were raw, passionate, and buzzing with creativity. It was an honor to see the diligence and devotion of these writers and artists put on display. Hearing the diverse voices of our community spoke volumes to the unifying power of art and literature.

The Anthology is a place for developing artists and writers to blossom. For many, including myself, it is the first opportunity to have creative works published. I would encourage every aspiring Winthrop artist to submit to the 2026 edition of The Anthology in the fall semester. This has been one of the best opportunities I have had in my writing career thus far. I would like to personally thank Editor-in-Chief Gwen Pregnall and Professor Bagwell for their unending support and patience, not only towards myself but to all the wonderful artists recognized in the 62nd edition of The Anthology.
