It is an honor for me to accept the position of editor in chief of The Roddey-McMillan Record. It means a great deal to me to be able to work with such a great staff – who are all talented and wonderful. I’m proud to represent this program and I hope to make my predecessors proud.
I began writing for the RMR last year – during my first semester at Winthrop. I published three articles during this time. It was such a joy to write for this publication. I was able to really grow my skills and harness what it takes to be a good writer. However, I have dealt with publications since high school.
I was born and raised in Lancaster, S.C. – growing up in a small town. I became passionate about writing during my junior year of high school after I joined my high school’s journalism program. I became editor in chief during my second semester in the program.
During this time, I also took dual enrollment classes at University of South Carolina: Lancaster – allowing me to earn my associates degree there. I also began writing for my local newspaper – The Lancaster News.
My goal for the RMR is to promote its continual growth for the future while maintaining the diverse nature of the content. We hope to work towards expanding our outreach – to better connect with all students on campus.
I also want to get the RMR more involved with the community. Working with other groups on campus and businesses in the Rock Hill area, we can uplift the community as a whole.
I am looking forward to our upcoming publications and I hope you will love what we have in store.
